A: 今天我们自己做饭,不去餐馆吃了,好吗?
jin tian wo men zi ji zuo fan, bu qu can guan chi le , hao ma?
shall we cook our own meals today, instead of eating outside?
B: 好主意! 但是我们什么也没有,怎么做呀?巧妇难为无米之炊。
hao zhu yi ! dan shi wo men she me ye mei you, zen me zuo ya?
Qiao fu nan wei wu mi zhi chui.
a good idea! but how could we cook without anything? even a clever woman cannot cook a meal without rice.

i see, in english, we often say " nobody can make bricks without straw".
