By the end of the course, participants should be able to engage in discussions of non-specialist current topics.

The course uses the volume 3 of "New Practical Chinese Readers". It covers vocabulary, new expressions, grammar, sentence patterns, and pronunciations. Topic discussions, general conversations, role-play are an essential part of this course. Homework is set each week and there will be regular informal assessment and an end-of-term exercise towards the end of each of the three terms.
