Who Should Attend

For students who have completed the Elementary Mandarin course or those have had 120 hours of classes and/or know about 600 characters and about 1200 words. 

Description
The course is designed to further develop the language skills in Chinese based on the Elementary Mandarin. The course again consists of three terms (each term consists of 10 weeks) with a continued focus on developing listening, spoken and reading skills of the course participants. By the end of the course, participants should be able to communicate freely in daily life situations, to describe some events and to express their own ideas and views while engaged in discussion in a limited range of topics. They will be introduced to a further 300 characters and about 800 words over 30 weeks.

The course uses second half of volume 2 of "New Practical Chinese Readers". Both Chinese and English will be used as the language of instruction in class. The course is still very much practice-based, focusing on listening and speaking, with a balance between communicative activities, structure practice, grammar and reading. Homework is set each week and there will be regular informal assessment and an end-of-term exercise towards the end of each of the three terms.

Course participants are expected to spend at least 2-3 hours each week outside the class on preparation, homework and revision.

The number of participants is between 6-12 to allow close involvement.

The fee for each ten-week term is £249 payable in advance
